action

While Schimanski and Marie-Claire are sleeping, a vehicle explodes in front of their apartment and burns out. In the morning, the undamaged corpse of a Mr. Zimmermann who was employed by the Federal Employment Agency as an agent is found in the trunk of the wreck . While shopping, Schimanski is immorally spoken to by the underage Lena Krawe, whereupon he brings her back to her apartment, where her brother wants to reprimand her for her behavior. When Schimanski returns home, Marie-Claire has disappeared because she can no longer stand it in his apartment. Schimanski happened to pass the crime scene and emphasized to Hunger and Hanschen that only he had what it took to solve cases in his neighborhood.

He promptly interfered in the investigation and accompanied Hunger to the dead man's wife, the doctor Dr. Karla Zimmermann. She behaves strangely and feels little sadness. Schimanski also tries to relieve Hunger of work at the employment agency, and from the window watches the young mother Alice who tries to jump in front of the tram. At the last second he saves her and brings her home to her friend Ringo, who is looking for work and lives on her Hartz IV . Once again he visits the Krawes because of loud arguments and finds Lena's father handcuffed to the heater. Martin Krawe is an unemployed engineer whose wife is in the sanatorium. His children don't respect him, he has become a player.

Hunger, who is currently setting up his new apartment, has found out that Zimmermann placed many unemployed people in the construction business, especially a building contractor. A journalist disguised as an illegal worker was recently killed on a construction site. After closer investigation, it turns out from a statement by a colleague that the victim was killed on the private construction site by Zimmermann and was brought to the large construction site to cover up the circumstances. In addition, Zimmermann withheld Hartz IV premiums and saved them in an account. Sometimes this also happened through sexual compensation from unemployed women. By building the house, he and his wife were heavily in debt, but there is no trace of the money put aside. Schimanski suspects Ringo because he knew about intercourse with Zimmermann and his girlfriend Alice. However, the latter has an alibi because he was at an interview at the time of the crime.

After watching Krawe playing and helping him to at least keep his shoes, Krawe tells Schimanski that he won Zimmermann's black money and his house playing. There was an argument on the construction site and he murdered him in an affect. But Schimanski doubts, because he has the feeling that Krawe would like to go to prison. He learns from Lena that Dr. Zimmerman helped her with the abortion and, in gratitude, told her about the money her husband had lost to her father. By chance, Schimanski learns Dr. Zimmermann's patient, Frau Schwarz, who suffers from terminal cancer. She tells him that Dr. Zimmermann gave her painkillers as usual on the day of the crime, which made her nod off. Schimanski suspects that Zimmermann's own wife committed the crime while Mrs. Schwarz was sleeping. With Hunger and Krew's son, he stops the time from the construction site to the housing estate, as Mrs. Zimmermann could only have used the bicycle. Since the schedule doesn't fit, he suddenly has the idea that she was using Ms. Schwarz's mothballed MG sports car. It turns out to be the right track, because when Schimanski tried to start the car started too quickly for a vehicle that had been out of use for a long time and the tires were dirty.

When she was Dr. Want to arrest Zimmermann, she is currently sitting with the late Ms. Schwarz, who has intentionally shortened her life with higher doses of painkillers. Since she has appointed her as heir, she hoped to be able to pay her debts with the inheritance. Ringo, who has found a job in the IT industry, and Alice are adopted into a new life by Schimanski. He arranges for Lena's father to go into rehab with a well-known therapist. Finally, Marie-Claire returns to him.

Awards

Matthias Brandt received the Golden Camera for his performance .

background

The graphic cosmetic changes were striking for this Schimanski. So the Plus Markt became the Rius Markt . The Sparkasse in the film also got a neutral name, but was still recognizable as a Sparkasse by the color design. Surreptitious advertising should be avoided.

At the end of the film there is an allusion to the first Schimanski crime scene Duisburg Ruhrort from 1981. This begins with a scene in which Schimanski is standing in his untidy kitchen trying to prepare fried eggs, but then beating them into a glass for lack of a clean pan and drinks raw while looking out of his window over Duisburg. At the end of "Death in the Settlement" this scene is repeated exactly again. The interior of Schimanski's apartment corresponded to that of 1981. When Schimanski looks out the window and puts the glass to his lips, he sees Marie-Claire returning home on the street.
