Rolf R. Bigler

Rolf Robert Bigler (born January 18, 1930 in Zurich ; † September 6, 1978 in Vienna ) was a Swiss journalist and book author .

Life

Bigler grew up in Zurich. His father Robert Bigler was a senior cavalry officer. His mother Paula Bigler-Daetwiler was involved in Gertrud Kurz's "Kreuzritter" refugee aid organization and secretly sheltered mainly Jewish emigrants from Germany, including many intellectuals and artists such as the comedian harmonists tenor Harry Frommermann. Bigler studied Sociology and History at the University of Zurich , in London, Paris and at the University of Cologne , where he met with a thesis on the anarchism in the Romandie doctorate . He then headed various construction companies. In addition, he was interested in military sociology since the late 1950s ; In particular, he has emerged as the author of various works on the Swiss army reform and the related issue of arming the Swiss army with nuclear weapons .

In 1964 Bigler became editor-in-chief of Weltwoche , which expanded under his leadership. In 1967 he was given leave of absence due to his (temporary) candidate for the Council of States and moved to Zürcher Woche as editor-in-chief . In 1969 he founded the Sunday Journal  , initially intended to compete with Weltwoche (and taken over by the latter in 1972) ; He was able to win Friedrich Dürrenmatt , Markus Kutter and Jean Rudolf von Salis as co-editor (or financier) .

Bigler was married to the actress Christiane Hörbiger from 1968 until his death (caused by a heart attack , the second after 1972) ; the marriage resulted in son Sascha Bigler .

He found his final resting place in the Grinzinger Friedhof (38-5-14) in Vienna.
