Markus Kutter
Markus Kutter (born October 9, 1925 in Beggingen ; † July 26, 2005 in Basel ) was a Swiss historian , advertiser, publicist and politician .
Life
Kutter, son of pastor Hermann Kutter (1893–1980) and a grandson of the theologian Hermann Kutter and a great-grandson of Wilhelm Rudolf Kutter , attended the humanistic high school in Basel and then studied in Basel, Paris, Geneva and Rome. He received his doctorate in 1954 with a dissertation on the Italian religious refugee Celio Secondo Curione .
In 1953, Kutter joined the Basel chemical company Geigy as an editor , where he built up and headed an information department until 1958. In 1959 he founded the advertising agency Gerstner + Kutter together with Karl Gerstner , in 1962 with Paul Gredinger († 2013) the GGK (Gerstner, Gredinger & Kutter) and caused a sensation beyond Switzerland with some of his advertising campaigns. He stayed in GGK, which has been internationally successful since the mid-1960s, until 1975, when he sold his shares to Gredinger. He then worked as a management consultant, and at the end of the 1970s he was briefly designated director of the national horticultural exhibition Green 80 . He dealt with the media local radio , teletext and video discs ; In 1983 he founded Alphaville AG, agency for publicity based in Basel.
Kutter was a noted Basel and also Swiss publicist who worked for newspapers and repeatedly presented his professional and life experiences as a writer and non-fiction author. In 1955, together with Max Frisch and Lucius Burckhardt , Kutter published his famous book achtung: die Schweiz . In this work it was proposed to forego the national exhibition Expo64 and instead to build a model city, which was not implemented. A focus of his later journalism was also the history of Basel and Switzerland , especially the period from the Helvetic to the founding of the Swiss federal state. In this context he founded the Peter Ochs Gesellschaft in 1989 . Kutter also wrote the script for the feature film Der Tod zu Basel (director: Urs Odermatt ) and the text for an unlisted festival about Peter Ochs.
From 1992 to 1997, Kutter represented the Liberal Democratic Party in the Basel City Council , the cantonal parliament. In 2002 he was elected to the Constitutional Council, which in autumn 2005 submitted the new cantonal constitution to the people for a vote. Cutter also operated a popular initiative on the accession of the Canton of Basel-Stadt the canton of Basel-Country , the 1833 took place Canton separation repealed.
