48 hours to Acapulco is a German feature film and the debut film by Klaus Lemke from 1967.
content
A young man pays with his life for the amateurish attempt to gain wealth by betraying industrial secrets and to secure a place in the fascinating world of the jet set.
“At the center of this“ thriller ”is a young man (Dieter Geissler) who is moving out to do the business of his life 10,000 miles from home in Mexico. He moves out with two girls (Christiane Krüger and Monika Zinnenberg) in order to be an optimistic amateur with professional dark men (Alexander Kerst and Rod Carter) who have been running their dark business on an international level for years. And suddenly he gets into 48 hours, which mean his whole life (and his death!) For him. He keeps his finger on the trigger of a revolver for 48 hours, and if he curves that finger, people die. He holds his opponents under spell for 48 hours before the last hour strikes for him at the same time as the 48th hour. In Acapulco , shortly before the finish line, he dies alone in the sea. "
criticism
The lexicon of international films wrote that the film was a “stylized thriller”, which “also had the wanderlust and the experimentation attempts of the young German film on the subject”. The strip remains "[s] arrested in a time of origin [...]." And is based on "American genre models". Even the evangelical film observer does not think much of the film: "This time Bubi's cinema is immature, tranquil and (with melodramatic music) as a bogus."
Awards
The film was awarded the Bambi in 1968 .
