history

The cemetery was probably laid out as early as the 9th century and served as a resting place for the long-established Bogenhausen families. In 1892 Bogenhausen was incorporated into Munich, but the former village cemetery was not taken over by the city of Munich until 1902. In 1952 it was completely redesigned, in 1959 the urban part, cemetery 3 and the adjoining wall graves, were redesigned in a more relaxed manner.

terrain

The cemetery is located on the Bogenhauser Kirchplatz directly at St. George's Church and is surrounded by an ivy-covered cemetery wall and divided into three grave fields.

The old, southern part with the adjoining wall graves belongs to the parish church foundation Heilig Blut, almost the entire northern part together with wall graves and urn niches belongs to the state capital Munich.

The rest period for corpses and ashes from the age of 11 is 15 years.

A number of prominent and elected Munich residents, artists, scientists, politicians, civil servants and entrepreneurs have received a memorial at the cemetery. Nevertheless, modest graves with wrought iron, painted crosses and small tombstones dominate the picture, very different from the other, large cemeteries with their mausoleums, marble sculptures or stone angels.
