Friedrich Domin

Friedrich Domin (born May 15, 1902 in Beuthen , Upper Silesia , † December 18, 1961 in Munich ) was a German actor and theater director.

life and work

The son of a gardener initially studied architecture under Walter Gropius at the Bauhaus , but decided to become an actor in 1921. After training at the Reinhardt Seminar in Berlin , he made his debut in November 1921 in a performance by Gerhart Hauptmann's Michael Kramer in the Berlin Theater on Köpenicker Strasse. Further engagements followed in 1924 in Königsberg, 1926 in Zurich, 1927 in Gera (with Walter Bruno Iltz ) and 1928 in Kassel. From 1934 until his death he was part of the ensemble of the Münchner Kammerspiele . He worked as a character actor in a wide variety of roles in classical and modern theater. He also worked as a director from 1936.

Since 1939 Friedrich Domin also took on film roles. He was subscribed to awe-inspiring notables, e. B. as prison director in Der Hauptmann von Köpenick , general in A Girl from Flanders , circus director in Lola Montez , councilor in Rosenmontag , banker in The Trapp family , Count Egge in Hubertus Palace , Chancellor Bismarck in Ludwig II - splendor and misery one Königs , Hindenburg in Sauerbruch - That was my life , or as a bishop in the Pater Brown crime thriller The Black Sheep .

Friedrich Domin died on December 18, 1961 in Munich of complications from influenza. He is buried in the Bogenhausen cemetery in Munich.
