The film in a Weddinger cinema

... and nothing but the truth is a German crime film from 1958 . Directed by Franz Peter Wirth played OW Fischer and Marianne Koch , the lead roles.

action

The doctor Dr. Stefan Donat is indebted to the button bar. When the terminally ill with cancer Agnes Donat dies, she leaves all of her fortune to Stefan. This is all the more astonishing since Stefan and Agnes had been divorced for years. It also seems more than strange to the investigating police and public prosecutor that Agnes changed her will in favor of Stefans immediately before her death. The original heiress was to be the dead cousin, Mingo Fabian, who was just 23 years old. When traces of poison are discovered, Dr. Donat soon was suspected of having deliberately killed his divorced wife. It is alleged that only he, among the suspects in question, could have come across the poison. Agnes' body is then exhumed. Things are getting tight for Donat now; he is charged with willful murder.

In the meantime, Mingo decides to contest the will. But it is not she who is behind this step, as Mingo is also friends with Stefan Donat. Rather, she urges her partner, lawyer Dr. Bernburger, to challenge. He is driven by a self-interest because he would like to marry Mingo soon. The background to this case gradually emerged in the trial. Donat endures the negotiation stoically, he appears absent-minded, almost disinterested and resigned to fate. The public prosecutor can prove that the defendant was in Munich at the time of the crime. Donat's defense attorney Dr. Fein wants his client to start fighting and tries to lure him out of the reserve. When Mingo visits her trial opponent, with whom she has long since fallen in love and whom she considers innocent, in prison, Stefan seems to gradually wake up from his lethargy. Finally the truth emerges: Agnes asked her ex to get the poison to get rid of her suffering and pain; a wish that Donat complied only out of compassion and compassion - a case of killing on demand .

Reviews

“'Der Fall Deruga', the only detective novel written by the eminent narrator and cultural historian Ricarda Huch, became the consecration place for the self-worship of Otto Wilhelm Fischer in this second film adaptation. As an innocently accused and at the same time selfless surgeon, Fischer can demonstrate in ancient glory and in all breadth how disdainfully the world molests a noble person. The director Franz Peter Wirth, who had been recruited from television, shot some dialogues with taste at room volume. "

“The fact that a crime film with OW Fischer manages without parade roles, without sensational punch lines and yet can be exciting from beginning to end, is the remarkable result of the clever director Franz Wirth, who remained sober and clear on the matter. (...) The dialogue is consistently quiet, unobtrusive and disciplined. The camera is not flattering. O. W. Fischer, without any pose, dominating focus, appears humble in a sympathetic way. You can also see Marianne Koch and Ingrid Andree, bitter and more intense than ever, with new eyes. "

- Hamburger Abendblatt , August 30, 1958

"With carefully crafted, but psychologically not completely rounded entertainment film of some tension."

- 6000 films 1945–58 . Handbook V of the Catholic Film Critics, p. 444.

In the lexicon of international films it says: "Skilled craftsmanship, psychologically inconclusive mixture of melodrama, crime thriller and court film, which is largely entertaining."
