Gustav Sichelschmidt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gustav Sichelschmidt (born January 31, 1913 in Remscheid ; † December 9, 1996 in Bad Iburg ) was a German historian , writer and right-wing extremist . The protection of the Constitution of Schleswig-Holstein classifies his works as Nazi- glorifying and revisionist .

Sichelschmidt studied German , history and art history and received his doctorate in Cologne in October 1938 on the subject of Das Bergisches Land under the General Gouvernement of Berg . After training as a librarian, he moved to Berlin, where he headed the public libraries in Berlin-Reinickendorf from May 1939 to May 1945. After his military service in World War II and subsequent imprisonment of war, he continued this work, among other things from 1952 to 1978 at the America Memorial Library , temporarily as head of the Berlin department.

Sichelschmidt wrote Berlin anthologies , non-fiction books and biographies as well as numerous books critical of time and society. Many of his works were published by Dietmar Munier's right-wing extremist Arndt-Verlag and are still published there today. Sichelschmidt wrote for the National-Zeitung for a while and was a member of the editorial board of the right-wing extremist anti-Semitic magazine Deutsche Monatshefte and the right-wing extremist magazine Nation. The political magazine for Germany . According to Hans Sarkowicz , he provided the “ Frey Gazettes with tumbling portraits of poets” and was “a declared enemy of West German post-war literature”. Sichelschmidt's photo book about the “Imperial Capital” at the turn of the 20th century was reviewed by Manfred Sack in 1977 as a “dissolute wood engraving collection” and “superficial sentimental memory”: “So much flirtatiousness with what is now apparently so comical is no longer allowed”.

In right-wing conservative to right-wing extremist media, he is praised as a "national publicist" or "national author", the right-wing extremist NPD describes Sichelschmidt as "unforgettable" and a "true popular enlightener". Outside of this spectrum, he is classified as a “neo-fascist journalist” and “well-known right-wing extremist”. In 1963, Sichelschmidt received the Ulrich von Hutten Medal from the right-wing cultural association, the Society for Free Journalism .
