Alex Gilady ( Hebrew אלכס גלעדי, Born December 9, 1942 in Tehran , Iran ) is an Israeli journalist and sports official.

General

Alex Gilady was born in Tehran in 1942 , the son of Polish Jews who had fled during World War II, arrived in what was then Palestine with his parents in 1943 and grew up in Ramat Hasharon . He has been working as a journalist since 1964. In 1968 he became a sports commentator for television. From 1981 to 1996 he was vice president of NBC Sports . Since 1996 he has held the position of Senior Vice President. In 1993 Gilady was involved in founding the Israeli media company Keshet, of which he has been president since 2005. In 2007 he was awarded an honorary doctorate in philosophy from the University of Haifa .

Sports administration

Alex Gilady is the chairman of the Television Commission of the World Athletics Association since 1985 IAAF . He has been working in a similar position at the World Basketball Federation FIBA since 2004.

IOC membership

In 1994 Alex Gilady was elected an IOC member. He is a member of the Commission on Public Relations and Social Development through Sport and the Commission on Communication. He is the Deputy Chairman of the Coordination Commission for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Rape allegations

At the beginning of November 2017, Alex Gilady temporarily resigned from his office as President of the Keshet Group. The reason for this were allegations of rape against him. The acts are believed to have been committed between the 1970s and 1990s and are denied by Gilady.
