Wilhelm Heinitz

Wilhelm Heinitz (born December 9, 1883 in Altona , † March 31, 1963 in Hamburg ) was a German musicologist .

After training and working as a bassoonist , Heinitz joined the Phonetic Laboratory of the University of Hamburg in 1915 , where he studied musicology. He obtained his doctorate on a topic of phonetics in Kiel in 1920 and completed his habilitation in 1931 with the text structure problems in primitive music at the University of Hamburg, where he then headed the research department for comparative musicology until 1949 . In November 1933 he signed the German professors' confession of Adolf Hitler .
