Thomas Phleps

Thomas Phleps (born September 2, 1955 in Bad Hersfeld ; † June 5, 2017 in Kassel ) was a German guitarist and musicologist .

Life

Phleps studied in Marburg and Kassel and completed his studies in 1981 and 1983 with state exams for teaching in the subjects of music, German and philosophy.

Since 1983 he has worked as a lecturer for musicology and guitar in Kassel. His doctorate took place in 1987 with the work of Hanns Eisler "Deutsche Sinfonie". A contribution to the aesthetics of resistance .

Initially Phleps worked as a stage musician at the Staatstheater Kassel . Since 1989 he worked as a teacher in Arolsen . In 1995 he was appointed to the Justus Liebig University in Giessen . In 2000 he completed his habilitation there in the fields of musicology and education . From 2001 to 2003 he was at the University of Bremen , since 2003 Professor of Music Education in Giessen.

From 2010 Phleps was the editor of the Hanns Eisler Complete Edition .

He died of a heart attack on June 5, 2017, at the age of 61.
