World Anti-Corruption Day

The International Anti-Corruption Day or Weltantikorruptionstag is since 2003 on December 9 committed when the United Nations Convention against Corruption was in Mérida (Mexico) for signature.

It is an annual UN event , sponsored by the United Nations, with the aim of raising awareness of corruption and related issues and showing the people who are fighting corruption in their communities and governments. In 2003, the United Nations passed a resolution introducing the Anti-Corruption Day.

The Convention against Corruption includes a. various measures and codes of conduct to ensure the independence of the judiciary, objective criteria for the recruitment and promotion of civil servants and for public procurement. It also deals with regulations on money laundering and options for compensation claims for victims of corruption.
