Bill Looby

Bill Looby (actually William Edward Looby * 11. November 1931 in St. Louis ; † 9. December 1998 in St. Louis) was an American football - striker . In the 1950s he was one of the best attackers in US football , as a key player in his home club St. Louis Raiders / Kutis , he won six US Amateur Cups in a row from 1956 to 1961 , as well as the US Open Cup in 1957 , for the USA he came to eight senior international games, took part in the 1956 Olympic Games and won the bronze medal at the 1959 Pan-American Games .

Looby was a two-footed, headed, half-right striker who was also dangerous from a distance.

Looby played for various clubs from St. Louis in 1949/1950 before moving to the St. Raiders, the later St. Louis Kutis, with whom he was to become very successful in 1950.

In the national team, Looby formed an outstanding attacking trio with Al Zerhusen and Ed Murphy in the 1950s , although they only played one full international match - the USA almost always played fewer than two full international caps in the 1950s They, the US team in numerous friendly games against club teams and regional selections, as well as in the qualifications or finals of the 1956 and 1960 Olympics and the Pan American Games in 1959 that are not recognized as A-internationals - in the last tournament alone they shot together in six games 24 goals. In 2001 he was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame and 1984 into the St. Louis Soccer Hall of Fame .
