Peter Proksch (born February 4, 1935 in Vienna ; † December 9, 2012 in Wolkersdorf im Weinviertel ) was an Austrian painter and graphic artist .

Life

He was the first of four children. The father Alfred Proksch was a graphic artist, the mother a mannequin . During the war years, the father could rarely be with the family. The war also meant that the family left Vienna and lived in the country until the end of the war. 1945 back in Vienna he attended the secondary school here. 1950 studied at the graphic teaching and research institute, Vienna, department of commercial graphics which he completed in 1955 with a master's degree. He then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, first in the master class of Robin Christian Andersen , but soon switched to Sergius Pauser's master class , where he learned the painting technique of the old masters , the classic mixed technique. He then joined Christian Ludwig Martin (artistic printing techniques) for a year to learn the art of etching and in 1962 he finished his studies. In the same year he exhibited some etchings for the first time.

In 1963 the first personal exhibition took place in Vienna. This was not a great success, but contacts were made with galleries, art dealers, collectors and, as a result, exhibition opportunities all over the world. Today Peter Proksch is one of the representatives of Viennese fantastic painting . He sent exhibitions in Paris , Rome , Turin , Munich , Cologne , Düsseldorf , Basel , Vaduz , Tokyo , New York , Tel Aviv , Caracas and last but not least in Vienna. His pictures are in numerous public and private collections. Peter Proksch lived and worked in Münichsthal near Wolkersdorf in Lower Austria .

In 1965 he married the translator Heide Kahlig , who shortly thereafter gave up her commercial profession to learn artistic textile techniques at the Academy for Applied Arts in Vienna. Their son Lucas was born in 1984. Peter Proksch died of a heart attack on December 9, 2012.

Honors

In 2010, Peter Proksch was awarded the Golden Medal of Merit of the State of Vienna . In addition, he was awarded the Golden Fügermedaille of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and the Medaille de bronce en section peinture of the Société des Artistes Français .

technology

Peter Proksch used various painting techniques such as watercolor , tempera or acrylic . He mostly painted his panel paintings using the technique of the old masters. This is a multi-layered glaze technique in which the still wet oil glazes are heightened with white egg tempera. This method takes a lot of time and effort, but no other technique can achieve such luminosity of colors and precision of details.
