The main character, Claudia Starik, is nineteen and suffers from the everyday life of a high school graduate . Her grandfather Konstantin Starik is a widower, ex-entrepreneur, communist and millionaire. He gives his granddaughter a trip to graduate school: As researchers and spies, the two set off on an expedition to Alaska , where the world's largest high-frequency antenna system is located near the magnetic north pole.
