Emilia Secunda Antwerpiana (born December 9, 1581 in Antwerp , † September 28, 1657 in Landsberg ) was a daughter of Prince William I of Orange and his third wife Charlotte de Bourbon-Montpensier and by marriage Countess Palatine von Zweibrücken-Landsberg.

Life

Emilia was nicknamed Secunda (the second) to distinguish her from her older half-sister Emilia . Later she was also called simply Amalia. Emilia spent her childhood at the court of The Hague and Delft under the care of her stepmother Louise de Coligny .

After her sister Luise Juliana had married the Palatinate Elector Friedrich IV in 1593 , she went to Heidelberg with him .

On July 4, 1616 she married Friedrich Kasimir , Count Palatine of Zweibrücken-Landsberg in Landsberg. In 1622 the couple fled from Tilly's imperial troops to Montfort Castle in Montigny-Montfort in Burgundy, which Emilia had received from her father's property.

In the following years in Montfort she had to struggle with considerable financial problems. In the years 1633–1634 she negotiated with her five sisters and her half-brother Friedrich Heinrich about the paternal inheritance. In 1638 Friedrich Heinrich paid off his sisters. Dissatisfied with the amount, she continued to negotiate with Friedrich Heinrich and asked for more in years of correspondence. In addition, in a trial in Paris, Emilia had to deal with claims by French relatives for the estate of the Chalon family , including the counties of Montfort and Charny.

After an objection from the city of Antwerp, Friedrich Heinrich paid Emilia a one-off sum, but in a letter in 1648 she again affirmed her deep impoverishment. Widow since 1645, she spent most of the last years of her life at her widow's residence, Burg Montfort.
