Pauline "Polly" Iselin (born December 9, 1876 in Boston , Massachusetts as Pauline Whittier , † March 3, 1946 in New York City ) was an American golfer .
biography
Pauline Iselin was born in Boston as the youngest of three daughters of General Charles A. Whittier and Elizabeth Jones Chadwick . Her sister, Louise Chadwick Whittier , who was four years older than her, died in 1886. When she was 10, she moved to New York City , but was sent to Europe shortly afterwards, where she was trained. At the time of the 1900 Olympic golf event, she lived in Switzerland and played golf at the St. Moritz Golf Club. At the 1900 Olympic Games , she took part in the first women's Olympic golf tournament , in which she finished second behind her compatriot Margaret Abbott . During the summer she lived at her sister Susan Tucker's home in Deauville . Susan was the wife of Russian IOC member Sergei Beloselsky-Belozersky . After returning to her home country in 1904, she married Ernest Iselin , who was on the board of many different companies. With the help of his fortune, Pauline Iselin founded the Generosity Thrift Shop in 1933 , which supported various social organizations.
