Dennis McBride

Dennis Raymond McBride (born October 1953 in Wauwatosa , Wisconsin ) is an American Democratic Party politician . He is the mayor of the city of Wauwatosa.

Life

His parents were journalists. As a track and field athlete, he won the Milwaukee Mayfair Marathon twice .

After graduating from Wauwatosa East High School , he studied journalism at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. In 1980 he received a Masters in Public Administration from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public & International Affairs , which is part of Princeton University . At the same time he had studied law at New York University . Here he received his doctorate as Juris Doctor in 1980 . After his studies, he worked for a year Legal Secretary ( Law Clerk ) the judge of the United States District Courts Terence Evans in Milwaukee . From 1991 to 2015 Denis McBride was Senior Trial Attorney for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Milwaukee. At Marquette University in Milwaukee, he was a lecturer at the law school.

Dennis McBride is married. He has two sons and a daughter and a granddaughter. His twin sister Genevieve McBride is Professor of History at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, and her twin brother Patrick McBride is Professor of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin – Madison .

Political career

From 2008 to 2018 he was in Wauwatosa Assistant Secretary for the fourth district. During this time, he served as President of the Wauwatosa Common Council for two terms from 2012 to 2016.

In June 2018, he won the Democratic election for running for the Wisconsin House of Commons , the Wisconsin State Assembly . However, he narrowly lost the election in November 2018 to Republican candidate and incumbent Rob Hutton : McBride received 48.5 percent and Hutton 51.4 percent of the valid votes.

Dennis McBride has been the 17th mayor of Wauwatosa since April 13, 2020, replacing Kathy Ehley , who did not run after two terms in office. He won the mayoral election with 60 percent of the valid votes.
