Werner Abegg
Werner Abegg (born December 9, 1903 in Zurich ; † July 13, 1984 in Bern ) was a Swiss textile industrialist, collector of textiles and founder of the Abegg Foundation in Riggisberg .
Werner Abegg took over the management of the family's textile factories in northern Italy in 1924. His modernizations were very successful and brought him considerable wealth. In 1947 Abegg sold the company and moved to New York for some time.
Abegg began collecting historical textiles, paintings and handicrafts at a young age. In 1961 he founded the Abegg Foundation and in 1967 moved it to a newly built, representative building complex in Riggisberg , where Abegg also took up residence. His collection enjoys a worldwide reputation.
The street in Riggisberg, at the end of which is the Abegg Foundation, was named after Abegg.
