Leonhard Joa

Leonhard Joa (born December 9, 1909 in Carlsberg ; † 1981 ibid.) Was a German automobile racing driver .

Life

Leonhard Joa, who came from a well-heeled home, started as a private driver in 1937 and 1938, mainly in hill climbs . In 1937 he won the Taubensuhlrennen in Landau in the Palatinate and on a Bugatti T51A , which had previously belonged to Ernst Günther Burggaller , at the Ratisbona hill climb near Kelheim in Lower Bavaria . In 1938 Joa won the Wachenburg race near Weinheim on his T51A , and again the Ratisbona hill climb and the Dreifaltigkeitsberg race near Spaichingen . He also started before the second in a Bugatti T37 , Maserati 4CLT , 6CM and BMW 315 Spezial . For the works team of Mercedes-Benz Joa takeover on W 125 participate in test drives.

Maserati 4CM

Together with Heinz Dipper , Leonhard Joa formed the South German racing community , for which he took part in several races of the European Grand Prix Championship on a Maserati 4CM in the 1939 season . At the German Grand Prix on the Nürburgring - Nordschleife , he was the last driver to finish seventh. In other races of the year - u. a. the Coppa Acerbo , the Coppa Ciano , the Swiss Grand Prix and the French Grand Prix  - Joa started in the Voiturette category, but was eliminated in each case.

From 1947 Leonhard Joa competed in the first post-war races in Germany. On May 11th, he finished second on the Maserati behind Hans Stuck ( Cisitalia D46 ) at the Hockenheimring . In August 1947 he won the Eggbergrennen in Bad Säckingen and defeated the mountain king Stuck on this occasion .

Leonhard Joa, who was an enthusiastic bowler , died in 1981 in the sports center of TuS Carlsberg while practicing this sport.
