Josef Ambacher (born December 9, 1940 in Munich ; † September 8, 2012 in Vogtareuth , Bavaria ) was a German bank director and president of the German Schützenbund e. V.

Life

Association activity

In 1954, Ambacher joined the "D 'Oberlandler" shooting club in Starnberg . From 1981 to 1993 he was 1st Gauschützenmeister in Schützengau Starnberg. In 1978 he became a representative of the Bavarian shooters in the German Rifle Federation and a member of the entire board. From 1987 to 2008 Josef Ambacher was the 1st state rifle champion of the Bavarian Sports Shooting Association (BSSB) . In this role he understood how to promote recreational and competitive sports, traditional ideas and the social mandate of the archery in equal measure. At the extraordinary meeting of delegates in February 2006, the BSSB bought the Olympic shooting range in Garching- Hochbrück on its initiative .

On April 20, 1994, he was elected President of the German Shooting Federation at the 43rd German Shooting Day as the successor to Andreas Hartinger and held this office until his death. He led successful and future-oriented developments, especially in youth, popular and top-class sport. Under his leadership the association was put on a good financial footing. In 2000, he set up the German Shooting Federation Foundation. Ambacher was treasurer of the German Olympic Committee. He was forced to vacate this post in 2003 because of a vulnerable remark made during a rifle meeting.

Ambacher was administrative at the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF).

Private

Ambacher was the father of a daughter and lived in Starnberg.
