Julius Falkenstein (actor)
Julius Falkenstein (born February 25, 1879 in Berlin ; † December 9, 1933 there ) was a German actor.
Life
Falkenstein probably received his first engagement in Berlin in 1904/05. In the following years he played mostly on Berlin theaters, interrupted only by engagements from 1908 to 1910 at the Lustspielhaus Düsseldorf, in 1911 at the Vienna Citizens' Theater and in 1912 at the Theater an der Wien . Falkenstein, who was valued above all for his comedic qualities, often went on guest tours and acted as a game director several times.
From 1914 he was also used in films. His roles were mostly small, but very memorable thanks to his bald and monocle hallmarks . He played nobles, military personnel, directors, as well as secretaries and accountants, sometimes in up to 20 productions a year. In addition, he still found time for theater assignments, most recently at the Komische Oper and in the Theater am Kurfürstendamm. He also wrote a comedy himself called Julie , which was staged with great success.
When the National Socialists came to power in 1933, the career of the Jew Julius Falkenstein suddenly ended. Although it received a special permit, it was only used once in film after March 1933. He died of meningitis. His grave is in the Jewish cemetery in Berlin-Weißensee .
