Krzysztof Arciszewski (born December 9, 1592 in Rogalin , † April 7, 1656 near Danzig , Kingdom of Poland ) was a Polish nobleman , military leader, engineer , ethnographer , general of the Polish and Dutch artillery and from 1637 Vice- Governor and Admiral of the Dutch Brazil .

Life

As a young man, Arciszewski was exiled from the Kingdom of Poland for murder. He went to Holland , where he settled in The Hague . With the support of Prince Krzysztof Radziwiłł , he began to study artillery, military engineering and navigation at the University of Leiden .

After completing his studies, he went to Brazil in 1629 on behalf of the Dutch West Indian Trade Company , where he was appointed Vice Governor and Chief Military Officer.

He returned to Poland in 1646, where he became general of the artillery and died on April 7, 1656 near Danzig.
