Mike Mazurki

Mike Mazurki (born December 25, 1907 in Tarnopol , Austria-Hungary , † December 9, 1990 in Glendale , California ; born as Mikhail Mazurkevych ) was an American actor of Ukrainian descent .

Life

Mike Mazurki, born in Tarnopol, then part of Austria-Hungary and now part of Ukraine , immigrated to the United States with his family at the age of 6. Mazurki's first job as a professional wrestler in the heavyweight class remained arrested in his acting career, which began in the 1940s, in which he often portrayed boxers and powerful gangsters, which was not least due to his height of 1.96 meters. Mazurki starred in the film noirs Murder, My Sweet and The Rat from Soho and has appeared in westerns and adventure films such as Sindbad the Navigator and The Charlatan . He was also known as the henchman of George Raft in Billy Wilder's classic comedy Some Like It Hot .

Until recently, he appeared in a total of 150 film and television programs spread over half a century. His first marriage to Jeanette Briggs lasted from 1943 to 1950, the second marriage to Sylvia Weinblatt lasted from 1968 until Mazurki's death. Two children came from her marriage to Janette Briggs. Although he cultivated the image of the stupid henchman on screen, he had a bachelor's degree from Manhattan College since 1930 .
