Alexandre Tharaud

Alexandre Tharaud (born December 9, 1968 in Paris ) is a French pianist .

Life

From the age of five, Tharaud had piano lessons from Carmen Taccon-Devenat , a student of Marguerite Long . At the Conservatoire de Paris he entered the class of Germaine Mounier . At the age of seventeen he received first prize in piano and then perfected his training with Theodor Paraskivesco , Nikita Magaloff , Claude Helffer and Leon Fleisher . He received third prize at the Concurs Internacional Maria Canals in Barcelona in 1987 and second prize at the ARD International Music Competition in 1989 in Munich.

He has performed as a soloist with various French orchestras (such as the Orchester National de France or the Orchester Philharmonique de Radio France), the Sinfonia Varsovia , the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and under conductors such as Yutaka Sado , Georges Prêtre , Marc Minkowski and Jean-Jacques Kantorow . As a chamber musician he worked a. a. with the violinist Pierre Amoyal , the flautists Patrick Gallois and Philippe Bernold , the clarinetists Michel Portal and Michel Lethiec and the cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras , with whom he recorded Franz Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata in 2006 .

Tharaud gave world premieres of compositions by Renaud Gagneux , Jacques Lenots , Guillaume Connessons , Thierry Pécous , Thierry Escaichs and Olivier Greifs . He became known on the record market in 2001 with a recording of the harpsichord suites Jean-Philippe Rameau . He has received several awards for his complete recording of Maurice Ravel's piano works . In 2004 he received the Edison Award . With the pianist Éric Le Sage , the violinist Isabelle Faust , the trumpeter David Guerrier and the singers Jean Delescluse and Juliette Noureddine , he recorded compositions by Erik Satie in 2009 . In 2011 he was awarded an ECHO Klassik Prize for his recording of Domenico Scarlatti's sonatas . In 2012 he took on a supporting role as the pianist in Michael Haneke's Liebe and recorded the Schubert pieces that appear in the film. In 2013 he was again honored with the ECHO Klassik "Classics without borders".
