Bryan Lerg (born January 20, 1986 in Livonia , Michigan ) is an American ice hockey player who was last under contract with HC Ambrì-Piotta in the Swiss National League . He is regarded as a player with a high work ethic, commitment and leadership quality on the ice, who, however, has repeatedly had problems in the course of his career to call up constant offensive performance.

Career

Lerg began his career in the 2002/03 season in the U18 team of the US National Development Team , for which he played two seasons in the junior division of the North American Hockey League . Between 2004 and 2008 he was on the ice for the Michigan State University team in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association , which is part of the NCAA's game operations . There the attacker was able to indicate his offensive potential for the first time and won the championship title with the Michigan State Spartans in 2007 . He also acted as assistant captain in the 2006/07 season before he took over the captaincy the following season.

In April 2008, Lerg was organized by the National Hockey League - Organization of the Edmonton Oilers committed, but came in the subsequent two and a half years exclusively with their farm team Springfield Falcons in the American Hockey League and temporarily at the Stockton Thunder in the East Coast Hockey League used. During this time, however, he could not call up his offensive strength and only marked 26 scorer points in 84 games for the Falcons . After his contract expired in the summer of 2010, the left shooter decided to move to Europe due to the lack of NHL offers and signed a trial contract ( try-out ) with Genève-Servette HC , where he could not recommend himself and after only one game in the National League A returned to the United States. In December 2010, Lerg signed a one-year contract with the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins , for which he then ran up in the AHL and ended the 2010/11 season with 32 scorer points from 65 games. In the following year, the winger was able to increase this performance further and scored 27 goals this season and 26 assists.

In July 2012 he received a contract with the Colorado Avalanche , but played, also due to the lockout , in the 2012/13 season only with their farm team Lake Erie Monsters in the AHL and led the team as captain on the ice. At the beginning of 2013 Lerg suffered a cruciate ligament rupture and was then out for the rest of the season. The following season was also marked by injuries for the American, so that he again only played 35 games in which he was able to achieve a total of 27 scorer points. In the summer of 2014, Lerg signed a contract with the San Jose Sharks , from which he was ordered to the Worcester Sharks farm team at the beginning of the 2014/15 season , where he again held the captaincy. After the winger developed into the team's top scorer, he was finally appointed to the NHL squad for the first time in April 2015 and made his debut in the top division of North America at the age of 29 in the game against his former club Edmonton, where he gave up Right away the game -winning goal contributed to the 3-1 victory of the Sharks .

In May 2016 he decided to move to Europe and accepted an offer from the Swedish first division club Rögle BK .
