Timo Juhani Jutila (born December 24, 1963 in Tampere ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who played from 1980 to 1999 for the Buffalo Sabers in the National Hockey League and Tappara Tampere in the SM-liiga .
Career
Timo Jutila began his career as a hockey player in 1980 in his hometown at Tappara Tampere , for which he was initially active for four years in the SM-liiga . During this time he and his team became Finnish champions in 1982 and 1984 and vice- champions in 1981. He also reached second place in the European Cup with Tampere in 1980 and was selected by the Buffalo Sabers in the fourth round of the 1982 NHL Entry Draft as the 68th player . In the 1984/85 season , the defender completed ten games for the Buffalo Sabers in the National Hockey League , in which he scored six scorer points, including one goal. However, he spent most of the season with their farm team , the Rochester Americans from the American Hockey League . After just one year, Jutila returned to his Finnish homeland in 1985 to Tappara Tampere, with whom he was champion in the following two years. Before the 1988/89 season, Jutila ventured abroad a second time. He was active for Luleå HF in the Swedish Elitserien for a total of four years before returning to Tappara for a third time in 1992. After four more seasons at Tappara, Jutila signed a contract with SC Bern for the 1996/97 season , with which he became Swiss champions . The success was followed by another engagement at Tappara Tampere. He ended his career in 1999 where he had started ice hockey 19 years earlier.
Due to his achievements, Timo Jutila was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2003. In addition, Tappara Tampere, where he spent most of his career, will no longer award him "his" jersey number 7 in honor of him.
