Dale Derkatch (born October 17, 1964 in Preeceville , Saskatchewan ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played for the EC Hedos Munich or the Maddogs Munich , the SB Rosenheim , the Düsseldorfer EG and the Kaufbeurer Adler in the German Ice Hockey League .

Career

Derkatch played for the Regina Pats in the Western Hockey League during his junior years and had excellent statistics. Three years in a row he had over 100 scorer points and his 179 points from the 1982/83 season are a record for the Pats that is still valid today. During these years, Anthony Vogel , Wally Schreiber and Rick Nasheim were among his teammates. However, the Scouts thought he was too small and so the star of the junior league, whose number 16 is no longer awarded by the Regina Pats, was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1983 by the Edmonton Oilers only in the seventh round as 140th.

Derkatch never made the leap into the NHL. In 1984 he moved to Italy, where he played with HC Bozen and Asiago hockey . In 1986 he moved to Finland and played there with Ilves Tampere . For the Bundesliga season 1989/90 he moved to the newly promoted EC Hedos Munich in the ice hockey Bundesliga . As a foreign duo with Ken Berry , he played his way into the hearts of Munich fans. After just a year he left Munich to join one of the rivals, SB Rosenheim . There he was the league's top scorer in the 1991/92 season . With Gordon Sherven he moved to Switzerland, to Zürcher SC . His move back to Germany to the Düsseldorfer EG during the season brought him his first German championship title in the 1992/93 season . With his move back to EC Hedos Munich, he was able to keep the championship title. In the coming year he was well on the way to defending his title, but the team, which was now called Mad Dogs Munich , stopped playing for financial reasons. Another year followed with the Kaufbeurer Adlers in the DEL and two seasons with SC Riessersee in the first division before he ended his active career.

He later worked as a scout for the Washington Capitals , among other things .
