He also won the prestigious Spengler Cup in 1996 wearing the jersey of the Canadian association selection .

Career

During his junior years Turgeon played together with Benoît Doucet at the Olympiques de Hull in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec . After good performance, he was selected in the first round of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft as second by the Hartford Whalers .

After the Junior World Championship in 1983 he played for the Whalers from the 1983/84 season . Here he stood in line with Kevin Dineen and Ron Francis . With speed and a strong will, he prevailed in the NHL and was elected to the NHL All-Rookie Team in his first season . With him and a number of other young players such as Ray Ferraro , the Whalers developed into a strong team in the NHL. In 1987, however, more attention was paid to his brother Pierre , who was selected first in the NHL Entry Draft .

In exchange for Pat Verbeek , he moved to the New Jersey Devils in the summer of 1989 . Again, he scored 30 goals. In the summer of 1989 he underwent an operation for an inguinal hernia . A few weeks later he was given to the Canadiens de Montréal for Claude Lemieux . He started the 1990/91 season late , but an injury to his kneecap soon forced him to take another break. After he made the following season to return to the ice that brought him Ottawa Senators in the NHL expansion draft 1992 . He spent two seasons with the Senators before playing with the Houston Eros in the International Hockey League in 1995 .

For the 1996/97 season he moved to Europe. The first stop was HC Bozen . After 23 games there, he moved to the Swiss National League B for EHC Olten for a short time and shortly before the turn of the year 1996/97 he completed the prestigious Spengler Cup in the jersey of the Canadian association selection . He won this with Team Canada and was significantly involved as the top scorer of the tournament. Shortly afterwards, he joined the Wedemark Scorpions from the German Ice Hockey League . The following years were also varied. The 1997/98 season he shared between the Revierlöwen Oberhausen in the DEL and the SC Herisau in Switzerland. The following year he started in Switzerland at SC Langnau and soon switched to the Kassel Huskies . Here he stayed until 2001. His last station was in the 2001/02 season at HC Thurgau .
