Tomáš Kapusta (born February 23, 1967 in Gottwaldov , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player who won the Czech championship three times during his playing days from 1983 to 2004 .
Career
Tomáš Kapusta began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of TJ Gottwaldov , for whose professional team he was active from 1983 to 1987 in the first division , the highest Czechoslovak division. The winger then played for one year each for his league rivals ASD Dukla Jihlava and HC Dukla Trenčín . For the 1989/90 season he first returned to Gottwaldov, for which he scored 14 scorer points in 16 games, including nine goals. He then joined the Cape Breton Oilers shortly after the start of the season . For the farm team of the Edmonton Oilers , who had already selected him in the NHL Entry Draft 1985 in the fifth round as 104th player, he played in the American Hockey League in the following two and a half years .
For the 1992/93 season Kapusta received a contract with HPK Hämeenlinna from the Finnish SM-liiga . In his first season at HPK, he received the Aarne Honkavaara trophy as the league's top scorer. After another year in Hämeenlinna, he played between 1994 and 1996 for their league rivals Lukko Rauma and Ässät Pori . In the 1996/97 and 1997/98 seasons , the former national player and Olympic participant from 1994 was on the ice in his Czech homeland for HC Petra Vsetín from the Extraliga and won the Czech championship title with his team in both years . He started the 1998/99 season in Finland with the Espoo Blues , but after only seven games he moved back to the Extraliga to his hometown club, which has now been renamed HC Zlín.
In the 1999 season Kapusta completed a total of 18 games for the San Jose Rhinos from the professional inline hockey league Roller Hockey International . Their game operation took place during the summer break in ice hockey. He then appeared in the 1999/2000 season for the Muskegon Fury in the United Hockey League . He also played a game for the Cleveland Lumberjacks from the International Hockey League this season . In the following years, the Czech stayed in North America and played for the Long Beach Ice Dogs in the West Coast Hockey League from 2000 to 2003 . In the 2003/04 season he laced up his ice skate for HC Zlín, with which he was once again Czech champion at the end of his career. He then ended his active career at the age of 37.
International
Kapusta took part in the 1987 Junior World Championship for Czechoslovakia . For the Czech Republic he took part in the 1993 World Championships and the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer . At the 1993 World Cup, he won the bronze medal with his team.
