Robert Kron (born February 27, 1967 in Brno , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player and current scout . The left winger played over 700 games for the Vancouver Canucks , Hartford Whalers , Carolina Hurricanes and Columbus Blue Jackets in the National Hockey League between 1990 and 2002 . With the Czechoslovak national team he won the bronze medal at the world championships in 1989 and 1990 and took part in the Canada Cup in 1991 .

Career

Robert Kron spent the first years of his professional career in his hometown Brno, only briefly with Lokomotiva Ingstav Brno in the second-class 1st Česká národní hokejová league and then with Zetor Brno in the 1st division , the top division of Czechoslovakia. In the season 1987/88 he led the team as team captain , but could not prevent relegation, so he moved to Dukla Trenčín for the following season within the 1st division . The winger was active there for two years and increased his personal statistics significantly to 44 scorer points from 39 games before he returned to Zetor Brno towards the end of the 1989/90 season to take part in the relegation round with the team, which has meanwhile been promoted again. There, despite seven goals in ten games by Kron, the team had to return to the second division.

For the 1990/91 season, the Czech moved to the Vancouver Canucks in the National Hockey League (NHL), which had already selected him in the 1985 NHL Entry Draft in 88th position. As a rookie , he scored 32 points in 76 games, but subsequently failed to establish himself permanently in the Canucks squad. As a result, he was given in March 1993, including a third-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 1993 to the Hartford Whalers , while in return Murray Craven and a five-round vote in the same draft moved to Vancouver. In his first full season in Hartford, Kron scored his personal career record of 50 points with 24 goals and 26 assists, which he should achieve again in 1995/96. He then moved the franchise to Raleigh , where it was henceforth known as Carolina Hurricanes .

The attacker was active for the Hurricanes for three more years until he was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2000 NHL Expansion Draft . The newly accepted into the NHL team should be his last career station in North America, as he returned to Europe after two seasons there and let his career end with Rauman Lukko in the Finnish SM-liiga . In total, he had played 771 NHL games and recorded 338 points scorer.

After his active career, Kron settled in Raleigh with his family and returned to the Carolina Hurricanes, for which he has been a scout since the 2008/09 season .

International

At U18 level, Kron took part with the Czechoslovak selection at the European Championships in 1984 and 1985 , where they won a silver and a bronze medal. He then represented the U20 national team of his home country at the Junior World Championships in 1985 , 1986 and 1987 . The team won the silver medal in 1985 and 1987, while in 1987 Kron was honored as the best attacker of the tournament.

The winger made his debut for the senior national team of Czechoslovakia at the 1989 World Cup , where the selection won the bronze medal as well as the following year . Kron's last international tournament was the 1991 Canada Cup , in which the team only finished sixth and last.
