Kim Staal (born March 10, 1978 in Herlev ) is a Danish ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Tohoku Free Blades in the ALIH since 2014 .
Career
Kim Staal began his career as a hockey player with Herlev IK , for whom he made his debut in the second Danish division in the 1993/94 season. He then moved to the junior division of the Swedish first division team Malmö Redhawks , for whose professional team he played in the Elitserien from 1996 to 2001 . During this period, the attacker was also selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1996 in the fourth round as a total of 92 players by the Montréal Canadiens , for whom he never played.
After Staal ran from 2001 to 2003 for MODO Hockey Örnsköldsvik in the Elitserien, with whom he was Swedish runner- up in the 2001/02 season , he returned to Malmö, with whom he was relegated to the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan in 2005. There he spent the entire 2005/06 season with his team and achieved a direct return to the Elitserien with Malmö, before he was signed for the following season by the Milwaukee Admirals from the American Hockey League . After only one year, the Dane returned to Sweden, where he was on the ice for one season each for Linköpings HC and HV 71 Jönköping in the Elitserien from 2007 to 2009 , with both teams again in the finals for the Swedish championship was subject.
For the 2009/10 season, Staal again signed a contract with his ex-club Malmö Redhawks, which in the meantime had been relegated to the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan. At the end of the season, however, he did not extend his contract and joined the Herning Blue Fox from the Danish AL-Bank Ligaen as a non-contracted player at the end of November 2010 , where he immediately became assistant captain. At the end of the 2010/11 season he and his team were instant Danish champions . For the 2011/12 season he will return to his hometown club Herlev Eagles.
In the summer of 2013, the German second division Starbulls Rosenheim announced the commitment of Kim Staal. The Dane will play in a German league for the first time in the 2013/14 season.
International
For Denmark , Staal took part in the junior division in the U18 Junior B European Championships in 1995 and 1996 and the U20 Junior C World Championships in 1995 , 1996 and 1998 . In the senior sector, he was in Denmark's squad at the B World Championships in 1996 , 1998 , 1999 , 2000, 2001 and 2002 , and at the A World Championships in 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 , 2009 , 2010 and 2011 . At the World Championships from 2008 to 2010 he was Denmark's assistant captain.
