Career

Miika Elomo began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of TPS Turku , for whose professional team he was active in the SM-liiga from 1994 to 1996 . During the same period he was mainly used as a loan player for TPS 'city neighbor Kiekko-67 in the second-rate I divisioona. He was also selected in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft in the first round as a total of 23 players by the Washington Capitals . For their farm team , the Portland Pirates from the American Hockey League , the winger scored 17 points in 52 games in the 1996/97 season , including eight goals. In the following season he scored in his first 33 AHL appearances for Portland only one goal and one template, after which he decided to return to his Finnish homeland in the middle of the season. There he became Finnish champion straight away with his new club HIFK Helsinki . He was able to repeat this success in the 1998/99 season with his hometown club TPS Turku.

In the summer of 1999, Elomo returned to North America. There he was able to increase in the AHL with the Portland Pirates to 21 goals and 14 assists in 59 games. As a reward for his good performance, he was allowed to make his debut in the National Hockey League for the Washington Capitals in the 1999/2000 season , for which he was an assist in two games. On June 24, 2000 he was transferred to the Calgary Flames along with a four-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2000 in exchange for a second-round vote for the same draft . Despite good performance in their training camp, Calgary only assigned him to their AHL farm team. For the Saint John Flames he scored 33 scorer points in a total of 78 games in the 2000/01 season , including ten goals. The 2001/02 season began the U18 junior European champion from 1995 at TPS Turku, but moved to the Espoo Blues after 24 games , where he ended his career prematurely following the 2004/05 season at the age of 28 stood on the ice.
