Walter Abel
Walter Abel (born June 6, 1898 in St. Paul , Minnesota, † March 26, 1987 in Essex , Connecticut ) was an American actor .
Life
Walter Abel received his acting training from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City . He had his first appearance in repertory theater and in variety theater on March 1, 1918, his first appearance as a professional the following year at the Manhattan Opera House . He then worked on Broadway and came to film in the early 1930s. Frank Borzage cast him in 1930 in his film adaptation of Ferenc Molnár's play Liliom , but it was not until five years later that he got his next film role: in 1935 he played D'Artagnan in The Three Musketeers . Since this leading role he has seldom been seen on the theater stage. In the 1950s, his work focused on roles in television films and series.
Walter Abel was married to the concert harpist Marietta Bitter. He died in 1987 of complications from a heart attack .
