Life

Erdmann-Michael Hinz was born in Kolberg in 1933 , where his father Paulus Hinz was pastor at Kolberg Cathedral . At the beginning of 1945 he witnessed the two-week siege of the city by the Soviet army and the death of an older brother who was hit by shrapnel. After Kolberg was taken by the Soviet troops, the family fled and initially found temporary accommodation in Berlin and Hermsdorf . In autumn 1946 his father got a job in Halberstadt , which is why the family moved there.

As a member of the Protestant Young Community, Hinz took an active part in community life. During this time he was already creating sculptures on biblical themes, which is why his father allowed him to pursue a career as a sculptor after confirmation . But Hinz died at the age of 17 in 1950. He was run over by a truck.
