Giovanni Domenico Santorini

Giovanni Domenico Santorini ( June 6, 1681 - May 7, 1737 ) was an Italian anatomist .

He received his doctorate in medicine in Pisa in 1701 . He is known to this day for his sections on the human body.

From 1705 to 1728 he demonstrated the dissection of the human body in Venice . His best written work was the publication of Observationes Anatomicae , a detailed description of anatomical aspects of the human body , in 1724 . He was the first to describe the following anatomical structures, among others: Cartilago corniculata (Santorini cartilage) and larynx . The accessory (additional) pancreatic duct ( Ductus pancreaticus accessorius ; Santorinian duct) and the uppermost nasal concha ( Concha nasalis suprema , Santorini concha ) are named after him.
