from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wladislaus von Liegnitz (also Ladislaus von Liegnitz ; Wladislaw von Liegnitz ; * June 6, 1296 , † 1352 ) was Duke of Liegnitz . After he was ousted from this in 1314, he turned to the spiritual career. He came from the Silesian line of the Piasts .

Life

His parents were Duke Heinrich V and Elisabeth († 1304), daughter of Duke Boleslaw von Kalisch .

Vladislaus was born only three months after his father's death. That is why he and his siblings, who were also underage, were under the tutelage of their uncle Bolko I , and after his death in 1301 the Bohemian King Wenceslaus II. In 1305, Vladislav's eldest brother Bolko III took over . under the tutelage of the Breslau bishop Heinrich von Würben, the government over the inherited territories for his younger brothers. In 1311 the paternal inheritance was divided. Boleslaw received the Duchy of Brieg , Heinrich the Duchy of Breslau and Wladislaus the Duchy of Liegnitz . Soon Boleslaw tried to extend his power and reduce the legacy of his brothers, with whom he was constantly in disputes. Finally, Wladislaus, who could not pay the cash settlement agreed upon at the time of the division, had to cede Liegnitz to him in 1314. For this year he is recorded as a canon in Breslau and as a subdeacon there for 1325. Around 1326 he is said to have married Anna († 1313), a daughter of Duke Boleslaw II of Mazovia , whom he left in 1328. After returning to Silesia, he is said to have sold his rights to Liegnitz to the Bohemian King John of Luxembourg . Presumably for this reason, on May 9, 1329, Wladislaus brother Boleslaw paid homage to him for Liegnitz and Brieg, which made both duchies a fiefdom of the crown of Bohemia . Also in 1329, Wladislaus accompanied the king on his crusade to Lithuania . Later, Wladislaus is said to have turned to robber barons.
