Robert "Rob" Kauffman (born June 6, 1964 in Sharon ) is an American entrepreneur and racing driver .

Entrepreneur

Robert Kauffman co-founded the Fortress Investment Group in 1998 , a private asset management company . In 2007, the company became the first hedge fund to trade on the New York Stock Exchange . In 2017, the investment company was sold to Japanese Softbank for $ 3.3 billion .

Robert Kauffman was and is a co-owner of US motorsport teams. He was 50 -% - owner of Michael Waltrip Racing and has been holding 2015 shares of the racing team of Chip Ganassi .

Racing career

Robert Kauffman was also active as a racing driver for a number of years. Between 2007 and 2013 he contested 26 GT races . He achieved three class wins. He competed in the FIA GT3 European Championship , the European Le Mans Series and the Grand-Am Sports Car Series . Twice, in 2011 and 2012 , he competed in the Le Mans 24-hour race. The best place in the final classification was 31st place in 2012. In 2011 he was involved in Mike Rockenfeller's accident in the Audi R18 .
