Pierre-Joseph Garidel
Pierre-Joseph Garidel (born August 1, 1658 in Manosque , † June 6, 1737 in Aix-en-Provence ) was a French doctor and botanist .
Live and act
Pierre-Joseph Garidel is the son of the lawyer Pierre Garidel and his wife Louise von Barthelemy. He studied medicine at the University of Aix-en-Provence under Honoré Bicaise and Antoine Mérindol (1570–1624).
Together with Joseph Pitton de Tournefort and Charles Plumier , he researched the flora of the Dauphiné and Savoy regions in 1678 .
On June 23, 1682 he received his doctorate in medicine in Aix-en-Provence, where he later also worked as a professor of anatomy. At the suggestion of Tournefort he became a corresponding member of the Académie des Sciences on March 4, 1699 .
His work Histoire des plantes qui naissent aux environs d'Aix-en-Provence , published in 1715, is one of the first floras in France. He was the first to systematically deal with the flora of Provence . He described in it u. a. in detail the grape , the vine and winemaking in Provence.
Joseph Lieutaud (1703–1780) was his nephew.
Dedication names
Joseph Pitton de Tournefort named the genus Garidella of the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae) in his honor .
