Adrian von Borsselen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Adrian von Borsselen (* probably 1417; † June 6, 1468 ) from the Borsselen house was lord of Brigdamme , Zoutelande and Sint Laurens . He was the son of Jakob von Borsselen (X 1426) and Anne de Hénin.

Adrian von Borsselen was Bailli von Mons , Burgundian councilor and chamberlain . In 1445 he was accepted into the Order of the Golden Fleece - together with his relatives Heinrich II. Von Borsselen and Frank II. Von Borsselen .

He signed his first marriage at the age of 34: the dispensation dates from July 7, 1450, the marriage contract from January 1, 1451. His wife was Johanna von Cats, daughter of Johann von Cats, Lord of Simonskerke , and Maria von Borsselen, wife of Souburg ; the marriage remained childless. Johanna von Cats died in 1457: she still tested on June 28, 1457, but had already died (for a long time) on December 5, as Adrian von Borsselen signed a second marriage contract on that day in Le Quesnoy . His new wife was Anna Bastardin of Burgundy, an illegitimate daughter of Duke Philip the Good and Jacqueline von Steenberghe. From this marriage Adrian von Borsselen had three children: Anna, Agnes and Cornelius, who all died as small children.

Adrian von Borsselen died on June 6, 1468 and was buried in Souburg . His widow married two years later, on June 21, 1470, Adolf von Kleve , Herr zu Ravenstein , also (since 1456) a knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece as one of the most influential and respected members of the Burgundian court.
