Martin Bernigeroth

Martin Bernigeroth (* 1670 in Rammelburg ; † June 6, 1733 in Leipzig ) was a German engraver .

Life

Bernigeroth, who comes from the Rammelburg office in the Saxon part of the county of Mansfeld , is the founder of a family of copper engravers based in Leipzig. He came to Leipzig in 1685 and was educated in the house of the engraver Erasmus Andresohn (1651–1731). He attended lectures at the University of Leipzig in 1690/91 and was appointed electoral copper engraver in 1707. His sons Johann Martin (1713–1767) and Johann Benedict (1716–1764) also worked as engravers.

Bernigeroth was married to a sister of the theater actress Anna Büchner († 1741).
