Christoph I. Burgrave and Count of Dohna-Schlodien (born April 2, 1665 at Coppet Castle on Lake Geneva ; † October 11, 1733 in Schlodien , East Prussia ) was a Brandenburg-Prussian general and diplomat .

Life

Christoph von Dohna was born as the son of Friedrich von Dohna (1621–1688), Governor of the Principality of Orange , and Sperentia du Puy Montbrun. Like his brother Alexander von Dohna , he was educated by Pierre Bayle , among others , and joined the Brandenburg army in 1670 as a cornet . In 1680 he became a captain in the Barfus on foot regiment under Hans Albrecht von Barfus and took part in the campaign in Hungary against the Turks in 1686 . On October 20, 1689, he became a colonel with the Grands Mousquetaires and fought as such against France in 1692 (Siege of Bonn , Battle of Fleurus ). In 1698 he became chief of the Barefoot regiment on foot, on August 20th Major General and Envoy to England , on November 3rd 1699 real Privy Councilor . On January 17, 1701 he was one of the first to be accepted into the High Order of the Black Eagle and again sent to London on a diplomatic mission. Promoted to lieutenant general on February 4, 1702.

As an opponent of Count Kolbe von Wartenberg , he largely withdrew from the court in 1704 and was only reactivated after his overthrow. In 1711 he was the royal Prussian envoy to the election of Charles VI. to the emperor. On 28 March 1713 he became the new king Friedrich Wilhelm I to General of Infantry transported. He also became a real secret council of state and war as well as governor of Prussian Holland . In 1715 he took part in the siege of Stralsund . His adjutant was Friedrich Otto von Barfus, the eldest son of his former superior. On February 10, 1716 Dohna gave up his regiment, resigned his offices and retired to his property in Schlodien . There he had a baroque palace built from 1701 to 1704 according to plans by Jean de Bodt .

Christoph thus became the ancestor of the Dohna family of Schlodien.

On November 18, 1690 he married Frede (Friederike) Marie (* December 28, 1660; † November 22, 1729 in Danzig ), daughter of Count Christian Albrecht von Dohna . The couple had the following children:
