Hans Pauer

Hans Pauer (born June 6, 1904 in Trautenau , † May 25, 1989 in Vienna ) was an Austrian archivist and librarian .

Life

Hans Pauer came from the Kingdom of Bohemia . After attending school, he went to the University of Vienna , where he studied German language and literature as well as art history and theater studies. There he received his doctorate in 1927 for Dr. phil. His efforts to get a civil servant position in the Austrian civil service failed. So he initially worked as an authorized signatory of the PAN film company.

In 1932 Hans Pauer took up a traineeship at the Austrian Photo and Film Office (ÖLFD) in Vienna and after four years he got a job there. In August 1939, the ÖLF became part of the German National Library. Hans Bauer took over the management of the new picture archive and after the end of the Second World War in 1947 also the portrait collection of the Austrian National Library. He retired in 1969 at the age of 65.

His work and research focus was image documentation in the field of cultural history and iconography. He presented several publications on this.
