Adolf Heyduk (born June 6, 1835 in Rychmburk , † February 6, 1923 in Písek ) was a Czech poet and representative of the Májovci .

Heyduk studied at the secondary school in Prague from 1850 , technology in Brno from 1854 and later the same subject in Prague. In 1859 he finished his studies and went to the Prague secondary school as a teacher, left it again in 1860 and became a private teacher for drawing and construction in the secondary school in Písek.

In 1876 he accepted the position at the 1st Realgymnasium in Prague and became chairman of Umělecká beseda . A year later, however, he returned to Písek and married.

He had a strong bond with Slovakia , where he had many friends whom he often visited.

Works

He wrote about sixty volumes of poetry, but most of them are little known. The song verse is typical of his works, which is why many of his poems were set to music. His subject was often the South Bohemian and Slovakian nature and love for women and children. Until the death of his two daughters, his works are full of optimism , then pessimistic and sad.
