Thomas Doss

Thomas Doss (born June 6, 1966 in Linz ) is an Austrian composer and conductor .

Life

Thomas Doss's parents, both professional musicians, taught him the tenor horn and the trombone from the age of 7 . Thomas Doss wrote his first compositions at the age of 11 .

From 1980 he studied at the Bruckner Conservatory in his hometown of Linz and completed his studies in the subjects of instrument pedagogy, trombone, composition and classical conducting. He completed further studies at the Music University in Vienna , at the Mozarteum in Salzburg and at the Maastricht Conservatory . He also interned in Los Angeles at MGM Studios and Dick Groove College .

In 1988 Thomas Doss became conductor of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra ; from 1990 to 1993 he was chief conductor of the state orchestra in Quedlinburg .

Thomas Doss has been teaching brass music direction and arranging at the Upper Austrian State Music School and the Linz Music School since 1991; since 2006 he has been the coordinator of the ensemble management program for Upper Austria. From 2001 to 2011 he was Professor of Ensemble Conducting at the  Conservatory Vienna Private University ; after that he worked until 2016 as a professor for wind orchestra conducting at the conservatory "Claudio Monteverdi" Bolzano .
