The Musikkorps der Bundeswehr (MusKorpsBw) is an orchestra of the Bundeswehr "with a special mandate" and part of the German military music service . Its main task is the public representation of the German armed forces on the major concert stages at home and abroad. Furthermore, the music corps represents the Federal Republic of Germany and the Federal Armed Forces in the protocol honorary service with a focus on Bonn and in western Germany, so welcomes foreign state guests among others. At benefit concerts during its forty-year existence, net proceeds of over 5 million euros were raised for charitable purposes. Its location is Siegburg .

Chamber orchestra
The chamber orchestra of the Bundeswehr Music Corps was made up of conscripted string players who did their military service in the military music service of the Bundeswehr. The chamber orchestra represented the Bundeswehr at festive events and in chamber, church or symphony concerts for charitable purposes and institutions. Most recently it was under the direction of the 2nd music officer, Captain Martin Jankovsky. Anyone who applied for the chamber orchestra had to pass an audition with the Bundeswehr music corps before starting their military service. Due to the suspension of compulsory military service, the chamber orchestra unit was dissolved with effect from January 1, 2011.
Musical program of the symphonic wind orchestra
In the orchestra's program design, the “concert dance” and in particular the original compositions for wind orchestra play a special role. In the benefit concerts of the music corps, a wide musical range is usually spanned, from arrangements of large “classical” works to marches to newer entertaining literature. This diversity corresponds to the same extent to the versatility of modern wind music development as to the rich tonal possibilities of the orchestra. At the same time, such a program at benefit concerts is intended to take account of the pleasing diversity of the audience, which is a special characteristic of the military orchestras.
history
On February 16, 1957, the "Lehrmusikkorps der Bundeswehr" was set up in Rheinbach , relocated to the Brückberg barracks in Siegburg on February 16, 1959 and renamed the " Bundeswehr Staff Music Corps " on June 1, 1959 . As the "staff music corps of the German Armed Forces", it has not only made an excellent name for itself on the major concert stages in Germany, but has also traveled to the USA , Japan , Africa and almost all countries in Western Europe. At the Protocol Honorary Services, it has paid musical honors to state guests from all over the world.
It has had its current name since July 1, 2000. Since then, in addition to the name of the music corps, decisive changes have been made: As a representative concert orchestra, it represents the armed forces at prominent concerts at home and abroad, such as a gala concert at the international conference of WASBE (World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles) 2003 in Sweden .

social commitment
An annual benefit concert for the German Children's Cancer Aid Foundation in the Unna town hall has been part of the regular program for 15 years . In cooperation with private individuals, the city of Unna and regional military units, the latest benefit concert in the fight against cancer through ticket sales and donation campaigns in 2017 raised a total of 22,000 euros for cancer aid.
Cooperation with UDO
In 2015 the music corps of the Bundeswehr worked together with the band UDO around singer Udo Dirkschneider . They performed together at Wacken Open Air . Other joint shows followed, for example in Elspe in 2018 . So the idea of a joint album was born. Under the direction of conductor Christoph Scheibling , the concept album We Are One was created with a total of 15 songs that thematically deal with the crises and challenges of the modern world. A video for the theme song was released on May 15. The album was finally released on July 17, 2020 via AFM Records and reached number 8 in the German album charts.
