Marianela Sánchez

Marianela Sánchez (born June 6, 1953 in San Juan de la Maguana ) is a Dominican singer (soprano).

Sánchez had piano lessons in her hometown, which she continued at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música with Ramón Díaz Peralta . She also took singing lessons with Rafael Sánchez Cestero and Olga Azar and was a soloist with the Coro Nacional under the direction of José del Monte .

From 1979 to 1984 she studied at the Conservatorio de Santa Cecilia with Paolo Silveri and Gianna Perea Labia . She then completed her training in opera with Franco Calabrese in Lucca and attended the singing classes of Franco Iglesias in New York.

From 1984 she performed with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de la República Dominicana under the direction of conductors such as Carlos Piantini , Rafael Villanueva , Julio de Windt , José Antonio Molina , Fernando Geraldes , José Manuel Joa , Leo Driehys and Germán Cáceres and with the pianist Vicente Grisolía on.

Sánchez sang leading roles in operas such as Fidelio von Beethoven ; Lucia di Lammermoor by Donizetti , The Poor Sailor by Milhaud and Rigoletto by Verdi and Zarzuelas such as Los gavilanes by Jacinto Guerrero , El cafetal by Ernesto Lecuona and Luisa Fernanda by Federico Moreno Torroba . Her repertoire also includes works such as Bach's Magnificat , Haydn's Missa in tempore belli , Mozart's Exsultate, jubilate , Coronation Mass and Requiem , Orff's Carmina Burana , Pergolesais Stabat Mater , Poulencs Gloria , Ravelos Oratorio la muerte de Cristo , Villa-Lobos ' Bacchianas brasileiras No . 5 and Vivaldis Dixit Dominus and Gloria .

She was awarded the Order of El Dorado in 1984 and the Premio Casandra in 1986, 1988, 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1996 . In 1991 she honored the Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo with an honorary professorship .
