Julio de Windt

Julio de Windt Pichardo (born October 26, 1935 in San Pedro de Macorís ) is a Dominican violinist, conductor and music teacher.

De Windt was a violinist in the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional of the Dominican Republic from 1954 to 1975 , after which he worked alongside Manuel Simó as a conductor. In 1966 he attended the master class for orchestral conducting by Igor Markevitch , in the same year and 1969 he took part in the international courses for orchestral conducting by Enrique García Asensio in Santo Domingo. In 1975 he finally took part in a course given by Hans Swarowsky at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.

In 1984 he became vice director and in 1995 chief conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional by decree of the President of the Dominican Republic . As a guest conductor he was a. a. with the symphony orchestras of Maracaibo in Venezuela; San Salvador, El Salvador and Ecuador.

Between 1959 and 1971 de Windt was violin professor at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música . He founded the chamber orchestra with which he undertook several concert tours through the Dominican Republic. In 1977 he became an honorary professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Art of the Universidad Pedro Henríquez Ureña . In 1998 he was awarded the Orden de Duarte Sánchez y Mella with the rank of Caballero .
