Fernando Geraldes

Fernando Rafael Geraldes Siragusa (born November 10, 1959 in Santo Domingo ) is a Dominican conductor , choir director, music teacher and singer.

Life

Geraldes had lessons in the violin, piano and music theory in his youth. In 1977 he went to Europe. Here he studied at the University of Trier with Sergiu Celibidache , was assistant to Gennadi Roschdestwenski at the Vienna Conservatory and student of Franco Ferrara at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena. In 1985 and 1986 he received his diploma as an orchestra and choir conductor in Vienna.

In 1985 he became music director at the Paulanerkirche in Vienna and two years later assistant director of the Vienna Chamber Opera . In 1989 he settled in Paris, where he worked as choirmaster of the Saint-Germain-des-Pres church and teacher and choirmaster at the Monthery Conservatory. At the same time he was a singer in the Ensemble Vocal Michel Piquemal and participated in several of its recordings. In the same year Geraldes represented the Dominican Republic at the Curso de Directores de Orquestas Latinoamericanas in Caracas and performed Mozart's Requiem and Stravinski's Mass with the Vienna Pro Musica Orchestra .

In 1992 he was deputy director of the world premiere of Antonio Braga's opera in 1492 at the Teatro Nacional in Santo Domingo. He then headed the Paris Coro Musici Europeae until 1994 . He has worked with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional de la República Dominicana since 1985, as a guest conductor from 1991 to 1992 and as deputy chief conductor from 1996. Geraldes has been a professor at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música since 1997 and directs its student orchestra. He has been director of the Coro Nacional de la República Dominicana since 1998. In the same year he appeared at the Teatro Nacional in a production of Verdi's La traviata under the direction of Carlos Piantini in the role of Gastone.
