Centrumpartij

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Centrumpartij called itself a nationalist , right-wing populist Dutch party that existed from 1980 to 1986. From 1982 to 1984 she was represented in the Dutch parliament until her only parliamentarian, Hans Janmaat , was expelled from the party. He then founded the Centrum Democrats , which he represented in parliament after the 1986 elections. The Centrumpartij became meaningless and in 1986 it was replaced by the Centrumpartij 86 .

history

The founder of the Centrumpartij on March 11, 1980 was primarily Henry Brookman , lecturer at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam . It combined a program of social compensation and environmental protection with a sharp rejection of immigration. Brookman felt it was necessary to form a new party after members of his previous party, the Nationale Centrum Partij , assaulted Moroccans in February 1980. Brookman was only chairman until 1981, but remained an advisor to the party until 1985.

The party got into not only the Chamber in 1982, but also some local councils. In 1984 she narrowly failed in the European elections. Internal tensions brought about the end of the party, so Nico Kronst wanted a more militant course. On May 12, 1984 he became party chairman instead of Janmaat. Janmaat was expelled from the party in October and many members followed him. On May 13, 1986, the party was declared bankrupt after neither it nor Janmaat's new party entered the Chamber.

On May 20, 1986, a radical nationalist Centrumpartij 86 was founded as the successor party. It attracted right-wing youth and in 1998 was classified by the Dutch Hoge Raad as a criminal organization engaging in sedition . The party was dissolved, but continued by the Nieuwe Nationale Partij on July 3, 1998. A well-known member was Alfred Vierling .
